April events

You may never have 'wondered what the Lectio Divina is all about' but York Minster's diocesan and ecumenical day (Saturday, April 26) looks pretty interesting nonetheless. Entitled Taste and See: Bite Size Spirituality, the event is billed as an opportunity to find out more about York City Churches, meet others from different denominations and gather some resources. The day begins at 10.15 with an opening address by the Bishop of Selby. Participants will then have the option of 20 different workshops spread across York churches, answering questions such as 'Have you thought about how prayer connects with peace and justice?', 'Would you like to explore prayer through using all your senses?' and 'Have you wondered how icons can help us to worship God?'. For more information, or to book a place, email helen.robson@coreyork.org or phone 01904 619489.

The equally monumental Liverpool Cathedral will host an art performance project from April 7 to May 10. One step forward … one step back is a journey for small groups through the interior of the Cathedral, with film, installation, models and live performance that, we're told, will 'interlink and echo through a series of thematic layers that will merge, dissolve and re-emerge in a richly metaphorical language'. Each performance begins at 19:00. Tickets cost £12 (concessions £8) and are available from Echo Arena Liverpool (with a booking fee £1.35 per ticket plus £1.50 handling fee per transaction). Call the box office on 0844 8000 400. As you might expect, there are no performances on Sundays.

At its central London venue, the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity will be asking What will it mean to be a disciple in a digital future? on April 7. They say, 'The digital revolution is upon us. Already we can shop, bank, play and even worship online.' Now here come the questions: 'How is the internet changing our lives?' 'What forces are shaping the digital media?' 'Will Real Life churches adapt and survive?' With the answers (or at least, his 'dream of what could be') is Andrew Graystone, freelance TV producer and director of the Churches' Media Council. The cost is £7 (concessions £5, a rate which also applies to people booking in groups of five or more) and light refreshments will be provided. The address is St Peter's Church, Vere Street, W1G 0DQ, but booking is essential. Call 020 7399 9555 or email mail@licc.org.uk.
